Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our oil change service

Most modern vehicles require oil changes every 5,000 to 7,500 miles for conventional oil, or 7,500 to 10,000 miles for full synthetic oil. However, this varies by vehicle manufacturer, driving conditions, and oil type. We recommend checking your owner's manual or consulting with our technicians for your specific vehicle's requirements.

Conventional oil is refined from crude oil, while synthetic oil is chemically engineered for superior performance. Synthetic oil offers better protection at extreme temperatures, lasts longer, provides better engine cleanliness, and improves fuel efficiency. While synthetic costs more initially, it can save money long-term through extended change intervals and better engine protection.

Neglecting oil changes causes oil to break down and accumulate contaminants, leading to increased friction, overheating, and accelerated wear. This can result in sludge buildup, reduced fuel efficiency, engine knocking, and ultimately catastrophic engine failure requiring expensive repairs or replacement.

Yes, our comprehensive oil change service includes checking and topping off all essential fluids including coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid, and transmission fluid (where accessible). We'll alert you to any fluids that need attention.

Yes, you can switch to synthetic oil at any time, even in older vehicles. Synthetic oil can actually help clean existing deposits and provide better protection for high-mileage engines. However, once you switch, we recommend staying with synthetic for optimal performance.

Oil naturally darkens as it circulates through your engine, picking up microscopic particles and combustion byproducts. This is normal and shows the oil is doing its job. Dark oil doesn't necessarily mean it needs changing - we go by mileage and time intervals, not color alone.

We use high-quality oil filters that meet or exceed OEM specifications. The filter type varies by vehicle make and model. Premium filters trap smaller particles and maintain flow rates better than economy filters, providing superior engine protection throughout the service interval.

A slightly warm engine (not hot) is ideal for oil changes as warm oil flows better and carries more contaminants out. However, for safety reasons, we prefer the engine be cool enough to work on safely. We'll handle the warming process if needed.

High-mileage oil contains seal conditioners and additives designed for vehicles with over 75,000 miles. It helps reduce oil burn-off, minimizes leaks, and reduces engine wear. We recommend it for older vehicles showing signs of oil consumption or minor seepage.

Check oil when the engine is cool and on level ground. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert fully, then pull out again to check the level. Oil should be between the MIN and MAX marks. We're happy to show you this process during your service.

Mixing different brands of the same type and viscosity of oil is generally safe, as all oils meeting API standards are compatible. However, we recommend using the same oil brand and type consistently for optimal performance and protection.
